THOMAS WHARTON is an interdisciplinary artist recently working in ceramics, sculpture, and photography. He lives and works in Sioux City, Iowa. His current work explores how art interacts with everyday spaces by reimagining the tokonoma, a traditional Japanese display alcove, as an outdoor installation that responds to weather, light, and time. These evolving works combine natural materials, ceramic forms, and mirrors to reflect changing surroundings and shift viewer perception. Wharton earned a BFA from the Savannah College of Art and Design and an MFA from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. His work has been exhibited nationally, including at First Street Gallery in New York and Satellite Contemporary in Las Vegas, and featured in New American Paintings. He is an Assistant Professor of Art and Director of the Clausen Art Gallery at Briar Cliff University.
