GONZALO FUENMAYOR (b. 1977, Barranquilla) is a Miami-based artist whose large-scale charcoal drawings interrogate the myths of progress and the exoticization of Latin America. His recent honors-the 2023 South Arts State Fellowship for Visual Arts and a 2022 Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant-underscore his critical engagement with cultural imagery. He holds a BFA from the School of Visual Arts (2000) and an MFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (2004). Solo exhibitions include Tropical Mythologies at MFA Boston (2015) and Palindromes at Dot Fiftyone, Miami (2020). His work has appeared in The Florida Prize 2020 and Caribbean Crossroads at the Queens Museum and is held by Perez Art Museum Miami, MFA Boston, and The Cornell Fine Arts Museum. He is represented by Dot Fiftyone (Miami), Dolby Chadwick (San Francisco), Fernando Pradilla (Madrid), and El Museo (Bogota).
