KATE LAING (Lionheart Canyon Studio) is a contemporary fiber artist in Omaha, Nebraska. Originally from Arizona, she explores nostalgic inspiration from nature's landscapes and color stories in her artwork. With over a decade of experience, Laing curates reclaimed/natural fibers that are handwoven on a frame loom. The finished textural weavings are hand-sewn onto ethically foraged driftwood, inviting a tangible piece of nature to the piece. Some pieces are woven directly onto a recycled metal hoop, exploring new structural possibilities. Laing's process engages the vibrant history of textile craftsmanship and our natural world-creating heirloom (yet modern) artwork that will last for many years to come. Laing earned her BA in Studio Art from Hastings College, and also studied at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. She has exhibited with Anthropologie, Lululemon, Split Gallery and Landlock Gallery, growing a recognition of her unique voice within contemporary fiber art.
