IGGY SUMNIK (1982-2023) grew up in Detroit and earned a BFA from Wayne State University in 2004. In 2005 he became an assistant at the Kaneko Studio and then in 2008 moved on to establish his ArtByIggy Studio. He became a fixture in the Omaha arts community and creative catalyst to many artists and students. Sumnik's iconic jellybeans, shark heads, imaginative sculptures and birds on a wire were one part of his colorful oeuvre. Sumnik was heavily invested in and inspired by the many opportunities available to young artists through the Omaha art world, including Bemis Center, where Iggy was an Artist-in-Residence. He wanted to give back to Bemis in gratitude for its commitment to the arts and regularly contributed his creations to the Bemis Auction. Sumnik's family is proud to continue in his footsteps providing legacy artwork to benefit the Bemis mission.
