LARRY GAWEL is a photographer living in Lincoln, Nebraska. Holding degrees in Photography from both Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and Penn State University, Gawel served as Instructor and Program Coordinator of the Photography Program at Omaha's Metropolitan Community College, from where he recently retired. For the last twenty years he has been photographing in Japan, building a portfolio of work entitled Tokyo is Yours. Work from 2023 shows a city changed by both the Olympic Games and the Covid-19 pandemic. The series Tsukiji No More documents the now vacant lot, surrounded by fencing, that housed the former Tsukiji Market, the largest wholesale fish and seafood market in the world.
