CHARLEY FRIEDMAN explores the ways that images and objects take on value from sacred to consumable, with work that questions how symbols become meaningful and how society agrees to this assignation of value. The connective tissue that unifies the work is human intimacy through the use of humor. Exhibitions include Crystal Bridges Museum of American, PS1/MoMA, Everson Museum of Art, Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, Queens Museum and most recently Museum of Nebraska Art and Nemith Center. He received his MFA from The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. He attended Skowhegan School in 1995. Selected press includes The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Miami Herald, White Hot Magazine, Hyperallergic, and Village Voice. Collections include: Walker Art Center, Brooklyn Museum of Art, Sheldon Museum of Art, Stanford University, OMI International Art Center, New York Public Library-Prints & Drawing Collection, Amherst College, Macalester College, and the Goldman Collection.
