Baron Wolman

Johnny Cash

Circle Star Theatre, San Carlos, CA 1967 14" x 11" Silver Gelatin Print Limited Edition

Baron Wolman (b.1937-2020) was a 30-year old freelance photojournalist for Rolling Stones Magazine in 1967 when he was sent on assignment to photograph Johnny Cash. Before the show, Wolman spent time with Johnny Cash and June Carter in their dressing room. It wasn't until 40 years later at a gallery exhibition of his work, that someone pointed out a crucial detail in the photograph: the blurred reflection of June Carter in the dressing room mirror. He was among a handful of pro photographers who captured stars at The Woodstock Music Festival. Mary Stanley met Wolman in 2007 and curated a solo exhibition of his work in Atlanta for the Atlanta Celebrates Photography (ACP) Festival. These photographs are especially desirable since they are limited edition darkroom-made analog silver gelatin prints.
