Cardinal Joseph Bernardin: In Service of One Another Catholic Humanitarian Award.
We are proud to honor Fr. Thomas Franzman with the 2025 Cardinal Joseph Bernardin In Service of One Another Catholic Humanitarian Award.

Fr. Thomas Franzman is a distinguished alumnus of St. Margaret Mary School in West Rogers Park, Quigley Preparatory Seminary, Niles College Seminary, and the University of St. Mary of the Lake. Ordained in 1970, he has devoted over five decades to priestly service in the Archdiocese of Chicago.
His early ministry included assignments at St. Clotilde Parish, St. Bede in Ingleside, Carmel High School for Girls in Mundelein, and leadership as administrator of Catholic Charities Youth Camp in McHenry County. He later served as associate pastor at Holy Name Cathedral while simultaneously coordinating construction projects for the archdiocese.
From 1982 to 1990, Fr. Franzman was rector of Quigley North Seminary. He then became pastor of St. Michael the Archangel Parish on Chicago's East Side. He also served as director of the Department of Evangelization, and later as stewardship officer and provost at the University of St. Mary of the Lake.
In recognition of his lifelong dedication to the Church, Fr. Franzman received the prestigious "As Those Who Serve Award" from Mundelein Seminary in 2008.
Most recently, he served as director pro-tem and chaplain at the Sheil Catholic Center at Northwestern University in Evanston. Today, he continues to share his gifts, helping every weekend at St. Pat's in Lake Forest. This year marks his 16th year there.
