Wilma Rudolph was an Olympic sprinter and first American woman to win three gold medals in track and field during a single Olympic Games. As a child, Rudolph was paralyzed from Polio and told she would never walk again, but she ran her way to gold in the 100-meter, 200-meter and the 4x100-meter relay in the 1960 Summer Olympics. In 1961, Rudolph won the Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year award.
