Wilson Smith III is recognized as the first black sneaker designer in the industry with Nike. Smith worked on designing retail spaces & products for Nike and in 2001 became the first dedicated designer for the Jordan Brand. Smith's most iconic shoe design was the Air Uptempo with "AIR" letters written along the shoe. Smith was named one of America's Top Black Designers by Black Enterprise Magazine. In addition, Wilson is a professor in product design at U of O, where his studio focus is Adaptive Design Enabling Athletes with Disabilities.
