This striking wall hanging represents the creative confluence of art and ocean life, meticulously crafted by our talented Middle School students. Using the traditional relief printmaking technique of linocut, each student designed and carved their own marine-inspired creation into linoleum blocks, which were subsequently inked and printed onto fabric squares in various shades of blue.

The collection features a diverse aquarium of ocean dwellers-from detailed tropical fish and graceful jellyfish to majestic sea turtles and sleek sharks-all rendered in bold black impressions against a soothing blue background. Each square tells its own story while contributing to the collective underwater theme.

This intricate piece showcases not only the students' artistic vision but also their technical skills in carving, inking, and printing. The linocut process allowed students to experiment with negative and positive space while producing multiple textured impressions of their original designs.

The final assembly was expertly sewn and quilted by our Director of Makerspace and Technology Carl Frisk, who transformed these individual expressions into a cohesive work of art. The finished piece measures approximately 3' x 4' and would make a stunning addition to any home, office, or public space.
