Animal Depicted: The Goldfish Kittens
In late July 2024, four kittens came in, and they were hard even for us to look at. Their eyes were bulging, dry, red, and painful. We named them the Goldfish Kittens - three females named Ranchu, Black Moore, and Oranda and one male named Panda. Our veterinarians determined that the Proptosis (bulging eyeballs) was likely caused by untreated eye and upper respiratory infections. Though it often needs to be treated immediately, the kittens were far too small to undergo surgery when they first arrived. They lived in the clinic for weeks as they healed and gained weight. They ended up being the most playful, sweet, happy kittens despite their conditions.
When they were healthy enough, their optical health was reassessed. Panda had to lose both eyes, but he is living life in his forever home like everything is completely fine! Black Moore still has both of her eyes with limited vision, and Ranchu sees everything out of her one beautiful eye. These sisters were adopted together. Finally, Oranda had to lose one of her eyes, but she also is thriving and living happily in her forever home.
Status: Adopted
