This unique print photograph depicts deck class on the Despina, built in Chicago by the Pullman Corporation for the U.S. Navy during World War II. The Despina was subsequently given to the British for their navy and the British gave it to the Greeks who made it available to passenger vessel operators. It was operated by the Foustanos family. Throughout the Cyclades she was affectionately known as Despinaki. The photo shows Naxos in the background.

The photo was taken by Robert McCabe, an acclaimed photographer known for his striking black-and-white images capturing Greece's landscapes, people, and maritime life. McCabe first visited Greece in the 1950s and became renowned for documenting the country's post-war era with a rare combination of authenticity and artistry. His work has been featured in museums and exhibitions worldwide, preserving the timeless beauty and cultural heritage of Greece.
