Cardinal Raymond Leo Burke. Most recently served as patron of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta from 2014 to 2023. He previously served as Archbishop of St. Louis from 2004 to 2008 and Bishop of La Crosse from 1995 to 2004. Archbishop Jerome Listecki and Bishop William Callahan shepherded the Church following Burke. He was made a Cardinal in 2010.
The Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe was an inspiration of Cardinal Burke while he was Bishop of La Crosse. It is said that he wanted to establish a place of lasting worship for Roman Catholics to go on pilgrimage to in the Diocese of La Crosse.
Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe - sits within 100 acres in the beautify terrain of La Crosse. The Shrine, faithful to the message of the Blessed Virgin Mary through her appearances on the American continent in 1531, serves the spiritual needs of those who suffer poverty in body and soul. It is a place of ceaseless prayer for the corporal and spiritual welfare of God's children, especially those in most need.
The Shrine is visited by thousands each year. But few people get private moments to share a meal with Cardinal Burke.
