The 2-Cent Coin dates to the Civil War and is the first United States coin to have the motto, "In God We Trust."
Religious sentiment at the time was high and the mint director was charged by Congress to add a motto referencing God to U.S. coinage.
About 65,000 were minted at the Philadelphia Mint; the series ran for only nine years from 1864-1873. It is estimated that about 10,000 exist today.
If you enjoy history, this 2-cent piece is a fascinating find.
