Masami Teraoka (born 1936) is an internationally acclaimed artist known for his masterful fusion of traditional Japanese woodblock print techniques with contemporary themes. Born in Onomichi, Japan, Teraoka studied art at Kwansei Gakuin University before moving to the United States, where he earned a BFA and MFA from Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles. Now based in Hawaii, Teraoka creates work that explores topics such as globalization, cultural identity, and social issues, often blending humor with incisive commentary.

His early works, featuring ukiyo-e influences and playful juxtapositions, later evolved into grand, Renaissance-style paintings addressing themes like AIDS, environmental concerns, and political corruption. Teraoka's art has been exhibited widely, including at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Smithsonian Institution. Teraoka continues to create thought-provoking works from his studio in Hawaii.
