About t
he Auction

In 2010, celebrated Hawaii artist John Koga created a pig sculpture in homage to Hawaii's enduring love for SPAM. Initially cast in bronze, it quickly sold out. Koga later produced resin versions, which included the SPAM can. These resin sculptures were rediscovered this year, inspiring Koga to involve fellow artists in painting them for a fundraiser.

Hawaii Foodbank was chosen as the beneficiary. Scott Gamble, SPAM's Hawai'i representative and Foodbank board member and Hormel, SPAM's parent company, gave their blessing. The Piggyback SPAM Project was born.

Twelve renowned Hawaii artists volunteered to transform the sculptures, with 100% of proceeds benefiting Hawaii Foodbank.  Participating artists include Yvonne Cheng, Kaili Chun, Solomon Enos, Christina Ho, Hadley Nunes, Kamea Hadar, Sanit Khewhok, Lauren Trangmar, Pegge Hopper, Sally French, Kelly Sueda, and Masami Teraoka. This unique collaboration celebrates art, community, and the state's love for SPAM while supporting a vital cause.
