Original artwork by BARITUS Catholic- Illustration (Christian artist Chris Lewis on Etsy) depicting the Catholic Church as "The Barque of Saint Peter''.

  • A 24" x 36" framed poster printed on heavy matte paper
  • Artist Chris Lewis created this symbolic print to encourage the faithful and inspire them to recall the promise of Our Lord that the "Gates of Hell shall not prevail against it."
  • Chris Lewis asks us to take a minute and look closely at the print... From the depths of the sea, the Leviathan and its hordes attempt to attack and wreak havoc on the ship, but the angelic armies rally to its defense. The ship is depicted swaying against the storms and missing the rocky shoals while being guided by the Holy Spirit. In place of the masthead, is the Blessed Virgin Mary is at the fore as a sign of her intercession while the ship is imbued with life by the Sacrifice of the Mass being offered in the midst of the ship. Where ships of sail normally feature cannon ports, the barque depicts twelve ports with statues of the Apostles, true spiritual weapons, and a cloud of witnesses always making intercession for the Body of Christ. Flags depicting the holy keys mentioned in Matthew 16:18-20 cover the top sails, while images of Our Lord Crucified are also painted on the main sails which give the ship momentum and power it through the storms. In the rear of the vessel, "Extra Ecclesiam Nulla Salus," proclaims that "There is No Salvation Outside of the Church," as the barque is the only saving vessel, recalling to mind 1 Peter which alludes to the typology of Noah's Ark as the ship that saves through the waters of Baptism. Lastly, the anchor is at the fore, and an ancient sign of the hope that lies within us in the One, True, Catholic and Apolostic Church, created by Our Lord Jesus Christ.
