Bill Sterling is the owner of Greenman Guitars and has graciously donated this guitar to Clearwater. These guitars are made with only domestic; sustainable woods; no tropical or endangered species. Additionally; all finishes are hand-applied oil finishes that are more environmentally friendly than what is traditionally used on modern guitars.

This Clearwater Guitar is a Martin-style dreadnaught; made from woods that grow in the Hudson River watershed.
What makes this guitar especially unique is that the peghead veneer is made of red oak from the Sloop Clearwater when it was repaired.

The top is Adirondack Red Spruce the back and sides are Curly White Oak. The neck is made with Maple; Cherry and Walnut. The binding is Sycamore and the wood from the Clearwater is Red Oak. The inlay is reconstituted turquoise. Scale length is Martin 25.34" and nut width is 1 11/16"").

Bill Sterling is a retired art teacher with a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Painting.
Building guitars is now his passion; which he has been doing guitars for 17 years. This combines his talents in art; woodworking; and music. He studied with Dave Nichols at Custom Pearl Inlay in Malone; NY. Bill teaches guitar and ukulele-making classes at The Hudson River Maritime Museum Boat School. Bill is also the President of the Mid-Hudson Woodworkers a chapter of the Northeastern Woodworker's Association. He has written numerous articles for the magazine Guitar Maker: The Journal of the Association of Stringed Instrument Artisans (ASIA).
