This beautiful ceramic vase was created by Dale Wolfield, an accomplished ceramist and former art educator. The vase is wheel-thrown using brown stoneware clay.
Dale relief carves the design into the clay while it is still moist. Her intricate designs take many hours to plan and execute. The vase depicts copepods, small zooplankton found in abundance in the Hudson River.
It stands about 10 inches tall and is stained with Barnard clay and finished with a rutile yellow glaze. Dale credits Chris Bowser, former Clearwater educator, for her inspiration.
Dale lives in Port Ewen and creates at the Kingston Ceramics Studio in Kingston. Her work is available year-round at Newberry Artisan Market located on Main Street in Saugerties. To see more of her work email Dale at [email protected].
