This bubble chamber photograph from Lawrence Berkeley Labs includes a chine colle of a 3rd degree fresnel lens, both ways of making light visible. I've long been interested in showing science and physics through my art.

About the artist:

Maryly Snow was born in Oakland, CA where she currently maintains her studio. She is a painter, photographer, printmaker, and collector of toothbrushes. Her work focuses primarily on documenting time and place and the relationship between art and science with series that grapple with a variety of climate issues, from Art and the Scientific Method, Oil and Water, Water Wars, Atmospheres, Physics Revisited, among others.

Snow was admitted by portfolio review to California Society of Printmakers in 1990 where she is still a member. She studied color and line with Elmer Bischoff and George Miyasaki at the University of California, Berkeley, and painting and printmaking with Kenjilo Nanao, Raymond Saunders, and Corbin Lupell at Cal State Hayward. Snow is currently not represented by any galleries, although previously she was represented by Van Doren Gallery in Chicago, plus the Van Doren Gallery, Tom Lutrell Gallery, Nathan Hart Gallery, and the SFMOMA Artists Gallery in San Francisco. She has been an artist in residence at Kala Art Institute, a relationship that goes back to 1984. She currently services on Kala's Art Advisory Board.

Maryly served as the Director of the Visual Resources Library, College of Environmental Design, University of California, Berkeley from 1976 to 2006. She was an active member of Art Libraries Society of North American (ARLIS/NA) and Visual Resources Association (VRA) where she focused on intellectual property rights and metadata standards for visual resources. Snow retired as Distinguished Emeritus Librarian in 2006 from Cal, and received the VRA Distinguished Service Award in 2007. When not making art, Maryly enjoys travel, reading, writing, playing bridge, swimming, and tending bee hives.
