Arla Lucia Raised Beaded Embroidery earrings. Arla Lucia, enrolled citizen of the Seneca-Cayuga Nation of Oklahoma, created this set of Beaded Flower and Monarch Butterfly earrings in purple, teal, and gold. Liquid gold traces the delicate edges of overlapping wings, shaped like perched monarchs. These shimmer in vibrant tones pulled from a mid-century modern dream. The monarchs wings fold gently, tucking close to a flower that rose from the surface like a secret. Its petals, formed from raised beadwork, curved open as if in welcoming a new friend. Arla decided to pursue Haudensosaunee raised bead embroidery as a vehicle to make her way home to her traditions. It has begun the lifelong process of healing for her family and reconnecting to traditions for future generations. In her culture beading is an act of healing with the very first wampum beads having been strung together as an offering that brought the Haudenosaunee people together in peace.
