Mata Ortiz is not an artist, but a Mexican town of over 480 professional artists. This piece, by artist Sara Corona Renteria, features intricate etched designs of quails, birds, cholla cactus, and desert flora. Handcrafted using traditional methods from the famed Mexican town of Mata Ortiz, where artists dig local clay, create mineral-based pigments, and make brushes from human hair. This finely detailed pot showcases a natural clay base with black etching and subtle color accents. Measures 7" tall with a 2" opening. A striking example of contemporary folk art rooted in ancient Casas Grandes tradition-perfect for collectors of fine Southwestern pottery.
