This stunning yellow and blue quilt was handmade by Navajo and Oklahoma Seminole designer Margaret A. Wood. Featuring a cotton top and polyester batting, the quilt's central block called Ft. Sumter commemorates the start of the Civil War. Margaret discovered the original centerpiece at an estate sale and added a blue and yellow stairstep border to expand its size. Upon initial research, she thought the pattern was related to Ft. Sumner, the Bosque Redondo site where Navajo and Mescalero Apaches were held in the 1860s. She infused the border with Navajo design elements inspired by traditional wedding baskets and rugs. Measures 104 inches high by 82 inches wide.
