Representing transformation and regeneration (as lizards shed their tails and regrow them), this beaded figure is known in Mexico's Huichol tradition as a spiritual protector or offering in sacred rituals to ask for guidance, protection, or blessings from their gods. These types of sculptures are made by covering a wooden or resin base with tiny glass or plastic beads ("chaquira"), which are embedded in wax or glue.
