During traditional Yup'ik ceremonies, dancers wearing the North Wind masks would perform to invoke the spirit's favor, mimicking the wind's movements and sounds. The masks played a crucial role in rituals aimed at maintaining harmony between humans and the natural world, particularly in the challenging Arctic climate. This miniature mask has been hand carved and hand painted.
