This project highlights the vital role of water as a life-sustaining resource for all living beings-not just humans, but also wildlife, trees, and plants. As part of their studies on New York City's water resources with their teacher, Ms. Escalante, students embarked on multiple school trips throughout the year to deepen their understanding of the city's waterways. One of these trips took them to Central Park, where they photographed the park's lakes and surrounding habitats, capturing the intricate connections between water, wildlife, and plant life.

Beyond photography, students conducted in-depth research on aquatic life in New York State and New York City. Each student selected one or more species that resonated with them and created hand-drawn illustrations to honor these creatures. Their photographs and artwork were then combined on a canvas to symbolize the diverse lifeforms that depend on New York City's water sources.

The frame of the artwork is intentionally designed to mimic water, visually submerging the depicted life beneath its surface. This design choice reinforces the profound significance of water, emphasizing its essential role in sustaining all forms of life.

This project was also submitted for a class grant, making it even more meaningful for both the students and their teacher. It represents not only their creativity and research but also their dedication to understanding and protecting the water that sustains their city.
