Private bird banding AND bird walk in Estes Park for up to 8 people!
Experience birding in Estes Park like never before! Join local expert, Scott Rashid, for an up close and personal look at the area's birds as well as experiencing them in their natural setting. The YMCA of the Rockies Banding Station has seen 99 species - many of which are different than those traveling through the Denver Audubon banding station. They've even had a grouse!
With bird banding, you have a unique opportunity to see wild birds up close while contributing to important conservation research. Guided by an expert ornithologist you'll witness the careful process of capturing, measuring, and banding birds before releasing them back into their natural habitat. This hands-on experience allows you to observe intricate feather patterns, delicate features, and the incredible diversity of bird species in a way that's rarely possible. Each session is unpredictable, making it an exciting adventure-you never know what species you'll encounter!
The guided walk around Estes Lake offers a chance to observe birds in their natural habitat, learn about their behaviors, and gain insight into the diverse avian life that calls this area home. With breathtaking mountain views as your backdrop, you'll have the opportunity to spot eagles, waterfowl, songbirds, and more while learning tips on bird identification and conservation. The Matthews-Reeser Bird Sanctuary on the west end of the lake and just outside of Rocky Mountain National Park is located in a valley that seems to funnel migrants. Perfect for bird enthusiasts, photographers, and nature lovers of all ages, this walk will be a fun, educational, and peaceful way to connect with wildlife.
This experience for up to 8 guests will be coordinated with Scott to take place in August or September of 2025.
