Locked in Fur Love: A Story of Connection and Compassion

Koke from the Positivity Booth never imagined himself as a pet person. Growing up on a farm, surrounded by 19 German Shepherds trained for protection, he spent his early years shoveling kennels and wearing bite suits as part of their training. He never thought he'd have a pet of his own-until Stella changed everything.

Stella, a golden retriever, entered Koke's life through his significant other, and over the past decade, she became more than just a pet. She became family. Stella taught Koke how to love again, how to care, and how to open his heart not only to animals but to people as well. She was there through the good times and the hard times, offering the unconditional love that only a pet can give.

Now, Koke is passionate about supporting shelter pets, knowing that they too are waiting for their own chance at love and connection. "I've been incarcerated before, so I understand what it feels like to be waiting for someone to see you, to give you a second chance," he shared. "Shelter animals didn't do anything wrong, yet they find themselves in a place they don't understand, hoping for a home. I want to help them find that."

Through the Locked in Fur Love fundraiser, Koke hopes to raise awareness and funds for shelter pets who need care and support while they wait for their forever homes. "Every dollar helps bring a smile to a dog's face, and those smiles ripple out to the people who adopt them. It's a circle of happiness," he said. "Pets heal us, and we owe it to them to give them the best life possible."

For Koke, the bond between humans and animals is deeply emotional. "They just know," he said. "My dog can sense when I'm upset, and she'll come over to check on me. They share our energy, they feel our emotions, and they love us without conditions."

As Valentine's Day approaches, Koke believes there's no better time to show love and give back. "This is a holiday about love, and what better way to celebrate than by helping animals find love, too?" he said. "Love is something we can all give, whether it's through donations, volunteering, or simply spreading the word about shelter pets in need."
