Grand Teton National Park is home to a herd of approximately 500 wild bison. Each fall, herds gather beneath the Teton mountain range for the annual rut or mating season. Scenes like this one once occurred widely across North America but are now limited to protected areas such as Grand Teton, its neighbor to the north Yellowstone National Park, and the nearby Wind River Indian Reservation.
