Sponsorships and Foursomes
To Our Supporters, we wanted to share about why we put on this event, and why it is named after these two strong, loving, and caring men.
Clifford "Cliff" Y. Davis III, remembered as the "Iron Man" of the Gamma Gamma chapter of Kappa Alpha, was a true southern gentleman who knew not the meaning of the word die. During his time at the University of Memphis, Cliff battled Hodgkin's Lymphoma, but that didn't dampen his gregarious spirit. He was a man who was always good company and a true brother to those around him. Serving two terms as president, his days at Kappa Alpha were always fondly remembered and some of his deepest friendship rooted in this brotherhood. Cliff passed away March 22, 2016 from long term complications of his cancer, but his legacy continues on in his wife Nancy and his two children Grace and Chip. We are excited to keep "Big Daddy's" passion for life, service, and celebration alive through this golf tournament and know he is cheering us on from the 19th hole in heaven!
Jeffrey Kent Smith, was a man who embodied the term "excellence". From his days in high school to his career at FedEx, Jeff always strived to be the best. At Memphis, Jeff maintained academic scholarships, paid his way through school, but still found time to become Interfraternity Council President and was voted "Mr. Memphis State". Jeff was highly involved in Kappa Alpha, serving as an officer and later, after graduation, serving as alumnus advisor and was named to Kappa Alpha's Court of Honor for distinguished KA alumni. Jeff joined FedEx in Investor Relations (IR) in 1998. While there, his accolades are too long to mention, winning 2 Five-Star Awards (the highest award at FedEx), as well as being named in numerous publications as a top IR professional. He garnered several other professional awards and honors during his career. On October 21, 2018, Jeff married his wife Jennifer. Jeff was a great husband and stepfather to Jen's son Aiden. A fiercely loyal Tigers and Titans fan, Jeff also enjoyed trivia, comics and especially golf. Knowing no strangers, Jeff had friends from all walks of life, and was usually the focal point at any social gathering. Jeff succumbed to cancer on November 17, 2022, but his memory lives on through his family, friends and colleagues.
We honor Cliff and Jeff through this tournament, and hope that we can make it an event on par with the reputation of these two
