Kiki Smith Eggs, 2019 Watercolor, various gold leafs, and graphite on Losin Prague paper A poetic meditation on nature and transformation, Eggs exemplifies Kiki Smith's signature exploration of the body and the natural world through an intimate, multidisciplinary lens.
Executed in delicate watercolor, graphite, and shimmering gold leaf on fine Losin Prague paper, this work captures the fragility and generative power of organic forms-central themes in Smith's expansive practice. Renowned since the 1980s, Smith's oeuvre spans sculpture, drawing, printmaking, textiles, and more, often weaving myth, folklore, and natural science into her visual language.
Her work has been the subject of over 25 solo museum exhibitions and featured in five Venice Biennales. Smith is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and an Honorary Royal Academician. She has received numerous accolades, including the U.S. Department of State Medal of Arts (2013), TIME 100 (2006), and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Sculpture Center (2016). Smith currently teaches at both NYU and Columbia University, and continues to live and work between East 7th Street in Manhattan - a Third Street neighbor! - and Upstate New York.
