Nancy Carman Artist Biography
Nancy Carman's art is a contemporary take on traditional ceramic painted pottery and figurine tableaus.
Carman is known for Surrealistic figurative hand-built sculptures and tiles using low fired clays. Surfaces vary from highly finished sculptures including a simplified asexual human and graphic element and earlier faceted unglazed objects. The figures that appear in Carman's work often appears stark and lacking gender identification. Surfaces are developed using various glazing techniques. Often Carmen's compositions are narrative.
In this work, images of separation of parts (the figure, the head, the water) are meditations on mind/body, the singular nature of the individual and our territorial impulses.
Nancy's work is in the permanent collection of the PA Convention Center in Philadelphia https://www.paconventionart.com/artists/nancy-carman
