Adelaide Paul Artist Biography
Adelaide Paul (b. 1961, Berwyn, Pennsylvania) She lived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 1963 to 1969 and spent the remainder of her formative years in South Orange, New Jersey. Paul earned a BFA from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University (Summa Cum Laude) and received her MFA in studio art from Louisiana State University in 1996.
Having taught anatomy to veterinary students for eight years as associate director of the anatomy lab at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, Paul has an intimate understanding of animal forms. She explores the relationships among animals and humans through her work. "Animals are anthropomorphized in film, fiction and popular culture," she said in a statement. "They (and their requisite accessories) are hot commodities; like all commodities, they are also disposable."
She has exhibited widely with Garth Clark Gallery (NY), Baltimore Clayworks (MD), DEAN Project (NY), and the Wexler Gallery (PA). Her work is included in many private collections throughout the United States.
