1Photo was taken at dusk in White Sands National Park, which at that time was a National Monument. It's an amazing place, and the sand is so white you really don't dare go there on a sunny day without dark glasses, or you may go "snow blind". There's no nearby year-round water, but the dunes are so extensive they can be seen from outer space. The tiny human figures in the background add scale.
