About the Author:
Paul Maravelas moved with his family to Tonka Bay when he was 12, and he spent many idle hours on the lake. In 1979 he married Joni Scheftel, whose family lived year-round on Big Island. The Scheftel house, now a summer cottage, has been owned by the family for fifty years. Maravelas studied at the University of Minnesota, where he received his B.A. and M.A. in history. He retired in 2023 after a career in various Minnesota museums. He lectures occasionally on Lake Minnetonka history.
