Weekend Wilderness Camping & Canoeing in the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge with Cathy Sakas
Experience the Okefenokee Swamp like you never have before with Georgia Conservancy's 2022 Distinguished Conservationist Cathy Sakas, a 2-time Emmy award-winning naturalist, aquanaut, submersible pilot (the first woman to ever do so), and scientific diver with Gray's Reef National Marine Sanctuary. This storyteller of oceans, the Okefenokee, and Georgia's precious places will lead you on a 3-day, 2-night platform-camping and paddling adventure for up to 6 people into the heart of the swamp, one of our state's most unique natural landscapes.
Georgia Conservancy's Stewardship Trips Director will help to keep everyone safe (Certified Water Rescue and Wilderness First Responder), prepare all your meals for the trip, and curate and field a backcountry cocktail bar for your evening enjoyment!
What will you be responsible for? Just your clothes, shoes, sleeping bag, and transportation to the swamp! The Georgia Conservancy can provide tents, kayaks/canoes, safety equipment (pfds, paddles, first aid), the kitchen, coffee, and all your meals
In recognition of Cathy's talents and lifelong role as an educator, this package also includes a collection of books on the Okefenokee Swamp
• Swamp Goddess: True Stories of the Okefenokee by Cathy Sakas herself
• Trembling Earth: A Cultural History of the Okefenokee Swamp by Megan Kate Nelson
Bid now to wade deep into the history and beauty of the Okefenokee!
