Artist Statement
Andrea Bartine Caldarise's art explores the psychological connection between people and their environment. Drawing inspiration from field trips and research deep dives into ecology, folklore, and geological histories, her compositions chart real and imagined locals, diagramming where multiple realities converge.
Artist Bio
Andrea Bartine Caldarise studied at Tyler School of Art, Temple University (BFA, Painting/Art History, 2009) and at the University of Pennsylvania (MLA, Arts Administration, 2013). In her studio practice, Caldarise centers an intuitive making process. She has collaborated with dance company, RealLivePeople (2010-2013) to create artworks centered on first-person accounts, engaging audiences with interactive dance. Upon moving to New York, Caldarise became an artistic collaborator with theatre group, Exquisite Corpse Company (2014-2019) where she built environments for immersive plays. These plays, produced on Governors Island examined a variety of themes from manifesting memories around ambiguous loss to climate change.
