HOLIDAY MUSIC, 2024
Acrylic, latex on canvas
20" x 16" x .75"
Artist Statement
I am a musician/composer as well as a visual artist. I have always experienced colors and shapes when playing or listening to music. These impressions form the basis of many of my paintings. As I work with this imagery, I start to get the feeling of these pulses traveling through the environment. If you think about it, they do. All the movement in the natural world can be sourced to wave patterns. In this series, my goal is to create abstract paintings that utilize this theme. In this particular painting, I wanted to convey the colorful sounds of holiday music. The black shapes push the colors to the forefront. This is a very dynamic, painting that creates a sense of lyrical movement and melody.
Artist Bio
Louis is a Philadelphia, PA based artist and musician. In 1978 he was awarded a full scholarship to The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts where he studied figure drawing with Marshall Glasier. In 1990, he made the decision to concentrate solely on painting watercolor landscapes and did so until 2006. Through that sixteen year period, his paintings became more abstract and these ideas set the precedent for his current work. In 2022 he was in the two person exhibit; "Caligiuri and Gribaudo" at the Design Center East Market, Philadelphia, PA., and recently, he was featured at a juried show at Culture Works, "Sound and Vision". Currently, his paintings, along with those of Nancy Neill and Julie Zahn, are in an exhibition entitled "The Fissure in the Flame" on view at the Wannamaker House, 2020 Walnut St. His paintings and commissions are included in many private collections; 2 of his paintings were purchased by the The Capital One Cafe in King of Prussia, PA., and Saatchiart has sold large prints of his work to hotels and senior living facilities.
