Artist Bio
Bruce Garrity's paintings utilize a broad vocabulary of painterly means in the pursuit of visual drama. These paintings reference Garrity's studio life and practice, the landscape as well as an interest in art historical models. The surfaces of the works range from light washes, direct drawing, scumbles and layerings to heavy impastos of the mostly saturated color palette. Garrity draws on various methods of construction, to bring the works to fruition: direct perception, memory, invention and combinations of these.

His work has been featured in many solo and group exhibitions. The artist's work is in numerous private and public collections.
He has taught at Rutgers University in Camden from 1997 through 2022. He has also been an adjunct faculty member at Stockton University, the University of Delaware, Stockton University, Rowan University, Delaware College of Art and Design.

Garrity received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting and Drawing from the University of Delaware, and a Master of Fine Arts in Painting from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He lives and works in Penns Grove, NJ.
