Artist Statement
Initially inspired by the shadows cast by a welded sculpture of a large nest on a pedestal like a birdbath, Cradle continues to explore themes around home and family.

What we inherit, gather, retain, or release, along with the narratives we tell ourselves and how they shape, intertwine to mold our identities.

Artist Bio
Nanci Hersh is a contemporary mixed media artist. She creates dynamic, fluid paintings, collages, and sculptures that draw upon life and everyday experiences. Through the process of multilayered narratives, she explores themes of home, family, the natural world, and the intricate webs that bind us together.

Nanci is also a curator, illustrator, educator, arts advocate and former Executive Director of the Delaware Institute for the Arts in Education. She has received numerous honors including three purchase awards from the State Foundation of Culture and the Arts, Hawai'i, and three Leeway Foundation Art & Change Grants. She recently completed and installed "Elemental Flow", a commissioned work of 20 paintings at Barbacane, Thornton, and Company in Wilmington, DE. Her work is included in the Public Collections of Museum of Encaustic Art, Johnson & Johnson, Leland Portland Cement, and OSI Pharmaceuticals to name a few.
