In Blue, 2023
Cement, acrylic paint and sealant

Artist Statement
In Blue is a textured cement spherical sculpture painted in various hues and tones of the color blue. The intension behind this sculpture is to create a cement sphere that is visually weightless and expansive. Varying hues create depth, mimicking light on water or sky. Deep blues evoke vastness, while lighter shades add airiness. The contrast between the smooth sphere and textured blue enhances its planetary appearance, like a celestial body in space.
Made from cement, acrylic paint, and sealant, this sphere highlights the unique textures of cement while showcasing the interplay of color and form. The final result evokes a planet-like experience.
My signature approach involves hand-building each sphere, creating a hollow interior with a seamless, whole shell. Because I sculpt each one individually rather than using a mold, the shapes are never perfectly spherical but slightly irregular. This organic irregularity adds another dimension to the layered textures, enhancing their visual and tactile depth.
This sphere stands out on its own but becomes even more dynamic when grouped with others of varying sizes, colors, and textures, creating a richer visual and tactile experience.
