Spend a luxurious night at the historic Greyfield Inn on Cumberland Island where you can relax, discover, explore, and restore.
The Thomas Carnegie family owned 90% of the island in the 1800s where they built the Dungeness mansion, Plum Orchard, and several additional estates including Greyfield. Today the furnishings and style remain true to its history, offering fifteen comfortable rooms in the main house and two additional cottages. Cozy fireplaces and a breezy, shaded veranda make the inn a wonderful year-round travel destination. The library, dinner bell, and a serve-yourself bar all make guests feel right at home.
Begin your trip by parking at the inn's lot in Fernandina Beach where you catch their private ferry to Cumberland Island. Check in and enjoy a delicious picnic lunch. Or you might want to pack it up and bike to the Dungeness Ruins hoping to spy some of the island's famous feral horses. A secluded 18-mile beach awaits swimmers and sunbathers, and kayaks are available for exploring picturesque Lowcountry marshes.
Inquire about a tour of the island with an expert naturalist. End the day on the inn's welcoming porch while sharing your adventures with newfound friends before enjoying a delicious dinner in the dining room. The Inn's 1.5-acre garden supplies a bounty of fresh vegetables, fruit, herbs, honey, and even fresh cut flowers creating a truly authentic farm-to-table experience.
Georgia's largest barrier island was established as the Cumberland National Seashore in 1972, and only residents and park rangers may drive vehicles on the island. Greyfield is the only commercial establishment, giving guests an unprecedented opportunity to connect with nature at its most pristine.
