Peter Fowler is a Buffalo-based visual artist and arts administrator. Born in Denver, Fowler began painting while working in Boston. In Boston, he took a painting course at the Museum School taught by Jon Imber, himself a student of Phillip Guston. In 1989, Fowler landed in Seville, Spain, and was exposed to a rich artistic heritage that helped add depth and story to his own work. After living and painting in Seville for 10 years, he moved to Buffalo, where he founded Kepa3 Gallery, establishing his personal studio in the same space.
Fowler's work can be found in corporate and private collections internationally, including ADUANA and MatriSur (Spain); Christopher Hyland Design and Ellen Fawer Art (New York City); and Eastman Machines, Uniland Development, Canterbury Woods, Rigidized Metals, Reikart House, Jazzboline and now your (Buffalo) home with this custom painting "Stationary Wing."
The painting of the iconic Albright Hall was created by Fowler with the thought process that the clock tower is the physical representation of the "stationary wing" at Nichols.
Additionally, in the painting he added a sentence that reads: "over and above eternity, a stationary wing". This is a somewhat inexact extraction of a line from one of Luis Cernuda's poems that he felt seemed appropriate.
According to Fowler, "Nichols School and its "education mission" is acting as a stationary wing for the students and alumni thru and over eternity."
This is an oil on canvas painting measuring 24" x 36".
