MADE BY RABC BOARD MEMBER JACQUE' LANG!

Nantucket Lightship Baskets were born with the arrival of the first lightship stationed off Nantucket in the mid-1800s. It was called the South Shoal Lightship and was anchored off the shoals of Nantucket for months at a time as a navigational aid. The crews of these floating lighthouses would bring weaving supplies with them and created these baskets in their idle time.

Nantucket Baskets have four unique characteristics that set them apart from other baskets: the use of rattan, the wooden bottoms, the use of molds and a special quality combination of beauty and workmanship which make them a valued collectible.

Jacque' Lang made her first basket in 2011 and has enjoyed learning the craft from her mother, Sandra Jorgensen, who has woven over 300 Nantucket Baskets.

Basket is 10" wide and 4" tall, made with a base, staves and handle made of cherry.
