Artist Bio: Maria Pittman, a native of Thomasville, GA, and current resident, holds a bachelorâ?Ts degree in Art
Education from Valdosta State University. Rooted in the creative process, she draws inspiration from
family, personal experiences, symbolism, and her faith in God. As a visual and mural artist, Maria has
left her mark with a significant mural in Ochlocknee, GA, and showcased her work in various art
shows across South Georgia and North Florida, Beyond her artistic endeavors, Maria is passionate
about guiding students, emphasizing that a fulfilling career in the arts is attainable. Through her art,
she seeks to inspire and empower the next generation of creatives.

Artist Statement:

In Hope, I explore the universal longing for connection, faith, and renewal. The imagery of hands reaching - one steady and one seeking-represents the human journey toward something greater, whether it be hope, faith, or a sense of peace. The butterfly, a symbol of transformation and spiritual presence, serves as a bridge between the seen and the unseen, embodying the delicate yet powerful essence of belief.

The work's open-ended nature invites the viewer to find their own meaning within it. For some, it may reflect reaching for God or divine guidance; for others, it could symbolize personal growth, love, or resilience. Through soft pastel tones and gentle movement, I aimed to create a piece that feels both intimate and uplifting, offering a moment of reflection and a reminder of the strength found in seeking.

With Hope, I wanted to leave space for the viewer to carry a part of their own story into the piece, just as I have woven my own into its creation.
