For nearly 60 years Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO) has established a national and international reputation as an acclaimed interpreter of historical masterworks as well as a champion of contemporary composers.
The goals and ideals of the "Joan and Jeff Beal Fund for Living Composers" align naturally with LACO's past, present, and future. LACO has always had a direct connection to the lifeblood of Los Angeles - the entertainment industry.
Founded in 1968 as an artistic outlet for the recording industry's most gifted musicians, LACO provided these conservatory-trained players with the opportunity to balance studio work and teaching with pure artistic collaboration at the highest level.
Against this backdrop, the Beal Fund will provide annual funding for LACO to commission new works, as well as feature previously written or premiered compositions, from one or more living composers actively working in the entertainment industry each season. The Fund will also support innovative multimedia programming, including silent film and video game music.
With an extraordinary $2 million leadership gift from Joan and Jeff Beal, this restricted endowment fund seeks to match their generosity with an additional $2 million. Support towards achieving this match helps ensure that these compositions become masterworks for worldwide orchestras to perform and global audiences to enjoy.
The generosity of your gift helps sustain the legacy of LACO through our endowment. Please note that 25% of your donation will be designated to support our artistic initiatives, as well as our community engagement and education programs such as Meet the Music and LACO Fellowship which invest in the future generations of musicians and composers.
