"Joyful Tree" is a vibrant and meaningful creation by the young artists of the Coneflower class. Each child contributed to this stunning tree using Dot Art, a technique with roots in the rich artistic traditions of Australian Aboriginal artists, which emerged in the 1970s in the Papunya settlement of central Australia. This project beautifully complemented our first-semester study of Australia, allowing students to connect art with culture in a unique and hands-on way. The Red Fox students have embraced sewing as our go-to practical life activity this year. After completing several weaving activities, we began hand sewing with needle and thread. Beanbags were our first project. Soon after they were completed, a parent presented the art of embroidery to the students. This inspired us to sew small quilting samplers using embroidery hoops. Another parent offered to keep our sewing lessons fresh by teaching the students how to use a sewing machine and helping us with our project. Our Fox pattern was created, fabric was chosen, and machine sewing began. We appreciate the time and help provided by our parent community in supporting our students in completing this fabric wall hanging.
