Take home this one-of-a-kind masterpiece made by the aspiring young artists at Mayo Middle School! This 30x30inch project pays homage to the art of paper-making as well as Egyptian culture. In ancient times, the lotus flower was a symbol of the sun, creation, and rebirth for the Egyptians. Art students created the lotus flower tiles by making pulp paper from recycled homework, then tracing and cutting it into pieces to form the lotus flower design. The pulp paper was glued to papyrus paper, which students made from brown bags and glue, mimicking the process of the first form of paper, credited to the ancient Egyptians. This work reflects many forms of art making, history, and culture, but is also a true testament to the beauty of working collaboratively with others.
