Annie is a brave, smart, and responsible girl. She is the 3rd child among 9 children (3 boys and 6 girls). The oldest girl has been married and moved away from the family, one girl and one boy have been adopted by other people, and the rest are all living with their parents in the Koh Dach area of Phnom Penh City.

The father has been handicapped (Paralysis) since the Khmer Rouge regime; he can walk but one of his arms cannot move. This family is extremely poor without any property, and they live in a very old cottage on a mango farm. The farm owner pays this family to look after their farm by giving them a sack of rice (50kg) and $100 per month but this is only seasonal work and income. Beside this, the mother must always go to work elsewhere for the family. The parents are committed to their children's education even when they are struggling with financial problems. They still keep an education for their children.

Annie is a quiet and helpful girl in the family. She can cook, help with all the housework, and look after her younger brother and sisters. She loves learning and sometimes she studies both mornings and afternoons without eating lunch.

Her mom wants her to live in the Hope House because she believes that Annie, who loves studying, will get a safe place to stay with good care. She can achieve a higher education for a bright future, and later help the family.

The family also has a tragic experience with their oldest daughter. She was sexually abused by a man in the village. This man was put in jail for 8 years and now has been released from the prison, back to living in the village. This makes the family extremely scared for their younger daughters.

Education: Annie is currently in grade 7 at the state school and her results are normal.

Favorite Animal: She loves her Teddy Bear.

Favorite Color: Her favorite color is pink.

Health Condition: She has a normal health condition with no medical history or allergies recorded. Her favorite dish is fried chicken with tamarind.

Annie is scared of snakes.

Future Goal: She wants to become a teacher. Having a sponsor will allow her the opportunity to attend school regularly and receive the education she needs to make her goals a reality.

UPDATE: Annie and her sister, Chook, were safely placed into Hope House in October due to fears of repeat sexual abuse from a man who raped their sister. Annie is so happy with a new life experience in Hope House with a beautiful room, good care from the house mom, and delicious food to eat. She goes to a great school and studies at grade 7 with a beautiful uniform.
